Hyman, Toldot Tannaim ve-Amoraim
אהרן הימן, תולדות תנאים ואמוראים (לונדון, תר״ע / 1910)
A sample / test. This is a small test of a translation pipeline for Aaron Hyman's biographical dictionary of the Tannaim and Amoraim. The pipeline: take the Hebrew text from Wikisource, translate it into English with the abbreviations written out, add a summary at the top, and set each quoted source as a quote block with the Hebrew first. Two entries are done: one short and one long. The translations were made with Claude.
Entries
- R' Abba (stam) Letter Alef. Hyman argues that there were only three sages called simply "R' Abba," not seven, and corrects a dozen scribal errors.
- R' Yoḥanan Letter Yod. Origins, youth and teachers of R' Yoḥanan bar Nappaḥa.
- Text in (parentheses) is Hyman's own. Text in [square brackets], shown in gray, is the translator's addition.
- Summaries, section headings and tables are the translator's.
